Beyond Internships

Media Link has helped over 100 students through our internship program. We couldn’t be more proud about seeing them graduate and start their careers.  If an intern exhibits a special passion for our field, we like to continue training and mentoring them by offering them a part-time position. This ensures they have the opportunity to continue to grow both personally and professionally, so they will become more accomplished as our next generation of marketing professionals.

Peri Berg

Interned: August 2022 to Present

Peri Berg, current Media Link Intern, is a senior at the University of Northern Iowa and is set to graduate in May of 2023. She is studying to earn her bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in Creative Writing and a Certificate in Literary Publishing. Peri is originally from Bettendorf and currently resides in Waterloo, Iowa while she earns her degree.

Peri started at Media Link in August of 2022 and has contributed to our team by creating social media content for various clients and assisting with a social media marketing analysis. As an intern, Peri has been excited to learn more about how marketing, advertising, and social media are an important component to the business and publishing world. She said of her work at Media Link; “I appreciate having the opportunity to write in so many different voices and circumstances. You get to play into your customer’s characters and must step into their shoes to produce the best work possible for them.” She is excited to learn from Media Link President, Natalie Linville-Mass, and the rest of the Media Link team to expand her experience as a writer.

When Peri is not writing and researching for Media Link, she enjoys free reading or working on her own Creative Nonfiction pieces. She works through her school as an editorial intern with the North American Review where she assists with design, submissions, and the editing process. She is also active in her local community and volunteers as a writing tutor at Waterloo West High School.

“When I first started my internship at Media Link, I wasn’t sure what to expect. It has been my first step into the professional world, and I was a little uncertain at first. Now that I have been working with Natalie and the team over the last few months, I feel I have gained a better understanding of the important role social media plays in the marketing world and how it is important in all areas and fields.”

Nini Nguyen

Interned: July – October 2022

Nini Nguyen is a rising sophomore at the University of Chicago who’s joining the Media Link Team this Summer. She plans to major in Global Studies and Public Policy. She plans to go to law school after finishing her undergraduate education. While Nini has worked in other professional sectors, this is here first time in marketing and advertising. She is open to new opportunities and learning experiences.

This is also Nini’s first time in the Quad Cities, having grown up in Boston and going to college in Chicago she has never lived outside of a major city. She is having a lot of fun learning about the Quad Cities and all it has to offer. Through Media Link she was exposed to the city’s culture and businesses, “I like how the Quad Cities are so community-based. I feel like I’m learning so much about the area’s history through local companies,” Nini shares.

One of her favorite past times is going to art museums. She recently visited The Figge and was impressed by the Anne Lindberg: think like the river with poet Ginny Three-foot exhibit and the Alexander Calder model.

“Nini is such a quick learner and so open to learning new tasks! It is a real joy to have the chance to work with her this summer. We are all genuinely excited to see how her career takes off,” expressed Natalie Linville-Mass, Media Link President.

“Working with Media Link exposed me to the charm of the Quad Cities. I am originally from Boston and go to school in Chicago. I have never lived in a place like the Quad Cities before. At first, adjusting to the change was uncomfortable, but Natalie helped me along the way. She also allowed me to appreciate the interconnectivity of the Quad Cities community. Everyone knew each other and relied on each other in some way, no matter how big or small of a role they played in the community. The businesses we worked with helped me learn about the QC culture and its values. Learning how the appeal of the QC despite never living here, was a challenge at first, but eventually this experience enhanced my ability to acclimate and cater to every business.”

Joshua Richardson

Interned: September – December 2019
Worked: January 2020 – February 2021

He is a student at Augustana College studying Sociology. He is currently a member of Rho Nu Delta working in a marketing field. Josh was born and raised in Homewood, Illinois. He hopes in the future that he can create a firm, that supports small and medium sized businesses as well as giving back to the community he works in, be that through service or advertising local events and social movements.

“Now, I have gotten the chance to expand what I know and what I can do with my major in the real world. I even had the chance to expand my understanding of small businesses and how they can all connect in a single city for an agency versus a corporation. I want to acknowledge the great opportunity they still gave me, even while a pandemic was ravaging the planet. That taught me a valuable lesson in organization and crunch time. When I finally was able to return, we had plenty of work to do since the pandemic started. This taught me to stay cool under pressure and look to my senior staff for guidance. It also taught me to always ask questions. I am only twenty years old, so there is no way I have all the answers. ”
